Eagles linebacker Trent Cole out at Redskins

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Trent Cole will not back the Eagles line when Philadelphia faces off with the Washington Redskins on Saturday.

The 10-year veteran broke his hand in the Eagles' 38-17 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday night. Dallas back DeMarco Murray suffered the same injury in the same game, though Murray will likely see the field Sunday against the Colts.

Cole will not prove as lucky, missing only the fourth game of his career and his first since 2011. He had surgery on Wednesday after considering taking the field and playing with the pain.

He recorded 6 1/2 sacks and three forced fumbles in 14 games this season for the Eagles, a team that holds the second-best sack mark in football (47).

He will be replaced by backup Brandon Graham on Saturday, who has seen increased time this season. Marcus Smith, the Eagles' first-round pick this April, will back up Graham.

Philadelphia (9-5) is seeking to rebound Saturday after losing the first-place position in the NFC East to the Cowboys in Sunday night's game.
