Eagles' LB tweaked his hamstring at practice

All the hopes and dreams the Eagles had in second year linebacker Marcus Smith looked to be trailing behind the cart that carried him off the field at training camp practice on Thursday.

He injured his hamstring on the first play of the Eagles' joint practice with the Ravens, a kick return drill, and initially the concern appeared to be rather serious. However, the early indications from NovaCare Complex now is that the injury is not as bad as initially presumed.

"It's nothing serious," Smith told NJ Advanced Media, via text message. "Just a tweaked hamstring."

Smith could not get to his feet under his own power after going down, needing help from team trainers to get on the cart. The Eagles also lost promising outside linebacker Travis Long to a torn ACL, his second in as many years.

Smith, a first round pick from Louisville last year, did not impress in his first chance with the team, failing to secure a single tackle against 63 defensive snaps in the 2014 season. Coaches have been optimistic that his contribution will improve this season after a promising effort in OTAs and training camp this year thus far.
