Earl Wolff: My knee has been getting worse

The bogeyman patrolling the Philadelphia Eagles' roster in recent months has been knee injuries. Chip Kelly took a chance on linebacker Kiko Alonso and quarterback Sam Bradford, both of whom have missed time with bum knees.

There's yet to be a problem with those players, but on Monday they found out a third player may be threatened with the same problem.

Earl Wolff was (and is) the presumed starting safety alongside Malcolm Jenkins in the Eagles' rebuilt secondary unit this season. He finished 2014 on injured reserve with a knee injury and had surgery after the season was over.

But he wasn't on the field on Sunday when the Eagles hosted the Colts in their first preseason game after he says he re-injured the knee sometime during training camp.

"It's just been getting worse and worse every day," Wolff said, via NJ.com. "It got to the point where I couldn't walk after practice."

Wolff said he hopes to play in the preseason, but will seek counsel from Dr. James Andrews to determine whether a second surgery is required. That's something he deeply wants to avoid. Losing Wolff would bring a heavy blow to a secondary unit that the Eagles believe they improved after a number of moves this offseason. They already lost rookie cornerback JaCorey Shepherd to a torn ACL this summer.
