Eagles waive Earl Wolff (knee)

The man once thought a potential starter on the Eagles' new defensive secondary is now no longer a member of the team.

The Eagles on Friday waived safety Earl Wolff with injury designation, according to Tim McManus of Birds 24/7.

The news is not surprising, even after Wolff was touted as one of the more promising members of the team's revived pass defense group. He missed the tail-end of last season's campaign after having a mini-microfracture knee surgery, and suffered a setback only last week, missing some of training camp.

Wolff admitted last week that his knee was feeling worse by the day, and his inability to run consistently with the team was something that started to bother head coach Chip Kelly.

He was drafted by Philadelphia in the fifth-round of the 2013 NFL Draft from North Carolina State, collecting 44 tackles in six starts his rookie season, but in 2014 would only see the field in seven contests, including a single start.

Wolff's departure leaves the Eagles with Malcolm Jenkins, Walter Thurmond II, Jerome Couplin, Jaylen Watkins, Chris Maragos, and Ed Reynolds at the position.
