IRVING, Tex. - Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray will have surgery on his injured hand Monday, though he may play against the Colts next week, according to the team's vice president.
He suffered the injury Sunday night, "late," said coach Jason Garrett, in the Cowboys' 38-27 win at Philadelphia, "right towards the end of the game."
Murray picked up 81 yards rushing, only his third game this season held under 100 yards.
Team vice president Stephen Jones told 105.5 FM (Dallas) that the bone, the fourth metacarpal, is broken, though did not specify to which degree.
"Obviously, DeMarco Murray has a broken bone in his hand," Jones told the station. "At the same time, he hasn't been ruled out. It's not something that if it responds well after surgery today, that can't come back and play this weekend. It's probably a tough expectation to think that he can, but we'll see."
Should he miss the game, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar will share duties from the Cowboys backfield, which arguably is the reason for the team's current division lead, and their first 10-win season since 2009.
Murray has rushed 320 times for 1,687 yards and 11 touchdowns, all the best marks in football this season.
