FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Jets backup quarterback Michael Vick said it would be a "dream come true" to play for the Washington Redskins, according to New York Newsday.
The paper reported Vick "beaming like a child" as he spoke of what would be a homecoming for the Newport News, Virginia, native.
"That's home," he told Newsday, smiling.
With the Jets careening near the end of what is thus far a 3-win campaign and the imminent exit of their head coach, it was only likely that their second-string quarterback would ponder what would become of his free agency, which comes following this season.
"I'm open to playing for anybody that wants to win," Vick added. "But obviously, going back home, I mean, that'll be a dream come true."
Vick relieved Jets starter Geno Smith for three games late this season before being benched himself for Smith. In nine appearances for New York, he threw three touchdowns and two interceptions, completing 68.3 percent of his passes for 604 yards.
Though Vick said the move would likely "never happen," taking snaps for the Redskins would mean a reunion with receiver DeSean Jackson, with whom Vick played in Philadelphia and is close friends.
Vick also mentioned speaking with Jackson about joining the Jets in the offseason.
"Being honest, yeah, we talked about it once I signed," Vick said, "and of course, DeSean is my little brother. I'm not saying he wanted to follow me, but he also knows what type of player I am and I know how to get him the ball."
New York and Washington are both 3-11 this season.
