St. Louis, Mo. - Hockey's all-time winningest goalie Martin Brodeur has signed a one-year deal with the St. Louis Blues.
The contract will give Brodeur $700,000 in base salary and many individual performance- and team-based incentives, including points earned in standings, longevity, and playoff victories.
Brodeur holds the best-ever mark in games played (1,259), victories (688), shutouts (124), playoff shutouts (24), and most wins in a season (48), sitting in net for New Jersey for them all.
He is also the only goalkeeper to ever score a game-winning goal.
The 42-year-old keeper will likely feature in the Blues' next game, their Dec. 3rd meeting with the Chicago Blackhawks.
"It feels great," Brodeur told the Blues website. "I really appreciate the opportunity for me to be here the last few days. It definitely worked out real well. I'm excited for this fresh start."
Starting goalie Brian Elliott suffered a knee injury against Ottawa late last month and was placed on the team's injured reserve list Wednesday. Jake Allen has been in goal in relief since then.
St. Louis (16-6-2) invited Brodeur to practice for a few days, a feeling-out period after which they decided to sign him.
Brodeur finished last season with the Devils 19-14-6 and a 2.51 goals-against average.
