UCLA handles USC for 3rd straight year

Pasadena, Ca. - Brett Hundley threw three touchdowns and rushed for a fourth as his UCLA Bruins defeat the USC Trojans 38-20 in the Rose Bowl Saturday night.

Hundley finished 22-of-31 for 326 yards passing, three scores and an interception in the all-time 82nd meeting between the two cross-town rivals and UCLA’s fifth-straight winning decision overall.

He tossed a 10 yard score to Devin Lucien in the first quarter after the receiver snuck into an empty end zone on a failed Trojan blitz. Only 39 seconds past before Hundley struck again, on a 57 yard bomb to Thomas Duarte that ended a 1-play scoring drive.

After Cody Kessler tied the game at 14 on a 2 yard pass to Justin Davis, Hundley threw a 13 yard touchdown to Eldridge Massington with 14 seconds left to take a 24-14 edge into the halftime break.

But the No. 9 Bruins (9-2, 6-2 Pac-12) would take possession of the game in its third period.

Paul Perkins scampered for a 10 yard score to end an 84-play drive and Hundley followed on the succeeding possession with a 15 yard charge up the middle that had the entire Trojan defense fooled. The score was Hundley’s fifth rushing against USC in his career.

Paul Perkins took the mantle of the best rusher by yardage in the Pac-12 tonight, gaining 87 yards on 25 attempts and a score. He faced the former conference-best, USC’s Javorius Allen, who rushed 14 times for 60 yards and a late touchdown.

Hundley’s first pass attempt was an interception returned 17 yards by Anthony Sarao for a touchdown and a quick 7-0 Trojan lead. The quarterback until then had not turned the ball over against USC in his career.

Devin Fuller secured 5 receptions for 53 yards and Mossi Johnson gained 60 yards on 5 catches for the Bruins.

Hundley finishes his career 3-0 against USC, the first Bruins passer to do so since Cade McNown from 1995-1998 during UCLA’s eight-game win streak against the Trojans.

Cody Kessler completed 22 of his 34 pass attempts for 216 yards, a touchdown and interception for USC (7-4, 6-3 Pac-12). He was sacked six times for 41 lost yards.
