The Eagles were confident enough in what they came away with from the draft to release cornerback Brandon Boykin to the Steelers this summer. On Sunday, they watched his replacement taken off the practice field on the back of a cart.
JaCorey Shepherd, the Eagles' sixth-round selection in April, found himself taking the role of nickel cornerback in Boykin's place and coaches were inspired by what they've seen from him so far in that role.
But instead, they were gathering around him with trainers after a collision with running back Darren Sproles during an open practice at Lincoln Financial Field.
The trainers' focus looked to be on Shepherd's right leg before they took him to the team's locker room for further evaluation. There is yet to be an update on his condition, but any prolonged absence could derail the Eagles' attempt to create much-needed rhythm and chemistry at what was last season a position of great concern.
