There had been grumblings from here and there in recent days that Brandon Scherff would be making a move somewhere.
Scherff on Sunday was listed as a guard/tackle on the official roster after having been listed exclusively as a tackle, according to Rich Tandler of CSN Washington.
For the last four full practices in Richmond, Scherff has been playing at the right guard position with Morgan Moses switched over to tackle for the duration. Scherff began OTAs and minicamp work at tackle before the move, and showed some promise at the position. Some of this decision may have come after he had some trouble against J.J. Watt's pass rush during the Redskins' joint practice with the Texans.
Head coach Jay Gruden said the line-up could be something that continues into the preseason.
"Yeah, it could be," he said. "It could very well be. We're just going to go out here and give guys reps, like coach [Bill] Callahan said, 'Criss-train them,' and then let the exhibition games take care of themselves and we'll make themselves and we'll make our decisions for Miami. That's definitely a possibility with Morgan at right tackle and Brandon at right guard."
It's an important decision as the Redskins look to establish a firmer pocket than in recent seasons as they try to resuscitate the hope they formerly had, and are looking to have again in quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Moses, a Richmond native, is entering his second season out of Virginia and Scherff was the team's No. 5 overall selection in April out of Iowa.
